«Ложные друзья» на английском на португальском языке, за которыми стоит следить
Есть много англо-португальских ложных друзей (или ложных родственников, если хотите). Эти слова выглядят очень похожими, и люди часто полагают, что они имеют одно и то же значение. Но они этого не делают!
Видите ли, существуют тысячи английских и португальских слов, которые имеют один и тот же латинский корень и, как следствие, выглядят и звучат одинаково и означают практически одно и то же.
Однако в некоторых случаях их значения со временем постепенно разошлись. Сегодня они выглядят и звучат одинаково, но означают разные вещи. Они стали ложными друзьями!
Слова под ярлыком «ложные друзья» не обязательно означают разные вещи на обоих языках. Действительно, многие из этих слов превратились в разные «оттенки» одного и того же первоначального значения. Хотя они используются в разных контекстах, они по-прежнему семантически связаны.
В других случаях португальское слово может иметь два значения, из которых наименьшее значение соответствует доминирующему значению соответствующего английского слова (и наоборот). Эти пары слов часто считаются ложными друзьями.
